Department of Craft/Material Studies Chair Sonya Clark has been named the 2014 winner of the 1858 Prize for Contemporary Southern Art, an annual prize awarded to artists who contribute to the understanding of art in the South.
Awarded by Society 1858, this $10,000 award goes out to one recipient per year. Recipients must be from the Southern region (Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia) and can work with any media. Clark works with materials such as human hair, beads, copper, cloth and combs.
