You’ve had a few months to recover from a year of projects, crits and countless hours in the studio, but now – it’s back to the grind. Ease back into the semester with our guide for kicking off the new year.
• First things, first. Catch up with your friends.
• Take an inventory of your supplies and gear. Set-up a supply swap with other students before buying things you need.
• Speaking of gear, stock up during VCU’s Welcome Week and the SOVO fair. With any luck, you won’t have to buy a t-shirt or a plastic cup for months!
• For the gear you don’t have, Plaza Art is open seven days a week, 8:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. on weekdays, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Sunday.
• There are over 10 breakfast and coffee spots on and immediately surrounding campus. With caffeine at every turn, know your fuel up spots.
• Think about what you want to accomplish this year and set some goals. Write them down and reference them throughout the semester.
• Have an arsenal of stress relievers for when times get tough (or, you could try kitten therapy).
• Create a daily mantra and put it somewhere visible.
• Red Eye Cookie will deliver until 3 a.m. Thursday – Sunday, and Christian’s Pizza has $2 cheese and pepperoni slices after 11 p.m. Night owls and late nighters, rejoice!
• If you’re craving your favorite restaurant, but don’t want to get off the couch, there is a new delivery service in town that will bring the goods to you.
• To ease your mind (and your stress), print out the University Coloring Book, created by Michael Walker (B.F.A. 16) and start coloring.
You and 2,884 other VCUarts students are coming back. If you’re having a hard time adjusting, you’re not the only one. You can do this!
