When Jordan Greene (B.F.A. ’16) started looking at colleges, he thought an architecture program would be the best fit for him – until he discovered the VCUarts Interior Design program.
“I found that the curriculum didn’t vary wildly from architecture,” says Greene. “Architects deal with the site and the building shell, while interior designers deal with everything from the building envelope in.”
Greene’s aesthetic is simple and bold. His projects are clean, with “an emphasis on function, with beauty stemming from that function, not superfluous desire.”
“The design process is not linear. A wall detail might inspire a logo, which could inspire a piece of furniture, which may inspire a service,” says Greene. “All these things can be designed and come together to create a cohesive and complete environment.”
Greene plans to stay in Richmond after graduation, where he will freelance and continue working on his small business, Skane, a custom t-shirt screen-printing company he started back in middle school.
“I’m planning on using the free time after graduation to grow Skane into a real business. The goal is to not necessarily search for a job, but to create one for myself,” says Greene. “It is really a venue for me to use all my different creative skills in one place.”
