
Alumnus Jarvis W. Jefferson to deliver keynote address
The Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts will celebrate the graduation of 471 students on Saturday, May 14. Four hundred and one students will receive their undergraduate degree, 66 a master’s degree, and four a doctorate.
This year’s commencement speaker will be Jarvis W. Jefferson, Director, New York Talent Acquisition – Marketing, Media and Creative Services at the world’s largest department store, R.H. Macy & Company in New York City. A merchandising graduate from the school’s department of fashion, Jefferson has stayed connected to VCUarts by serving on the school’s New York City Fashion Advisory Board and visiting both the Richmond and Doha campuses as a speaker and critic. He received his B.F.A. from VCU in 1981.
Jefferson has worked for such brands and companies as: Citigroup, Footlocker, Mercedes-Benz, Nine West Group, Tommy Hilfiger and Time Warner. At Macy’s, in addition to staffing the company’s brand, media and Omni-Chanel strategy teams, Jefferson identifies and assembles talented artists and creatives who develop and produce the company’s marketing collateral and materials, as well as Macy’s world-renown Thanksgiving Day Parade.
