This spring is your chance to see the latest work coming from the Department of Craft/Material Studies. Faculty and MFA students will have their work on display in galleries—and a national ceramics conferences—across Virginia and beyond.
Hello There
Quirk Gallery, Charlottesville
As the inaugural exhibition at Quirk Gallery’s new Charlottesville location, Hello There features the work of more than 40 artists—painters and printmakers, illustrators, sculptors, and others working with clay, paper, resins, and fiber—including Interim Chair and Associate Professor Susie Ganch and Assistant Professor Hillary Fayle. Each of the artists in the exhibition have played a major part in Quirk’s development since the gallery first opened its doors on Broad Street in downtown Richmond in 2005.

Serious Bling: Radical Jewelry Makeover — The Artist Project
Fuller Craft Museum, Brockton, Massachusetts
Radical Jewelry Makeover is a community jewelry recycling project that draws attention to the creativity and skills of local jewelry designers. Volunteer miners donate their old jewelry to volunteer jewelers and students who work together as refiners and designers. Serious Bling: Radical Jewelry Makeover — The Artist Project presents 32 re-created pieces of jewelry designed by a small group of international artists using donated jewelry left over from previous RJM drives. Ganch has been directing the collaborative project since 2007; Metals area coordinator Kathleen Kennedy joined as co-directing partner in 2017 and will have work in the exhibition.

INSERT self
The Gallery at Main Street Station, Richmond
INSERT self, a group exhibition curated by Assistant Professor Chase Folsom, includes the work of MFA students from the VCUarts departments of Craft/Material Studies, Photography + Film, Kinetic Imaging and Graphic Design. Featured students include Hannah Altman, Eric Anthony Berdis, Laura Boban, Rice Evans, Ashley Goodwin, Abigail Grix, Min Kang, Andy Lowrie, Elizabeth McGrady, Paige Lizbeth Morris, Sarah Parker and Katie Revilla.

Multivalent: Clay, Mindfulness, and Memory

The 54th annual conference of the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts will feature exhibitions at galleries at venues throughout the Richmond region and include the work of Craft/Material Studies faculty, alumni and current students.
