Music faculty member named in Grammy nomination

Yesterday’s 62nd Grammy Awards included work directed by VCUarts music faculty member Erin Freeman.

The Richmond Symphony Orchestra and Chorus’s recording of Mason Bates’ Children of Adam and Vaughan Williams’ Dona Nobis Pacem is in a portfolio of recordings for Marina A. Ledin and Victor Ledin, who were nominated for Producer of the Year – Classical. Freeman, director of choral activities at VCUarts, also directs the Richmond Symphony Chorus.

A number of VCUarts alumni and faculty members also appear on the album, including:

  • Susanna Klein, assistant professor of violin and area coordinator for strings, violin
  • Molly Sharp, viola instructor, viola
  • Kelli Ali, double bass instructor, bass
  • Brain Strawley, trumpet instructor, trumpet
  • Justin Alexander, director of percussion studies, percussion
  • Lisa Fusco, instructor, RSC soprano section leader
  • Erin Bolden (B.A. ’16), RSC soprano
  • Emily Powers (B.M. ’16), RSC alto
  • Arianna Rose (B.S. ’17), RSC alto
  • Chris Crowley (B.M. ’06), RSC tenor section leader
  • Rondy Lazaro, current student, RSC tenor
  • Chelsea Cockburn, current student, RSC alto section leader
  • Coltrane Conklin (B.S. ’18), RSC bass
  • Russell Wilson, piano instructor, piano
