This Thursday, August 8, the Anderson hosts a slate of evening events: two opening receptions of artwork and a PechaKucha presentation.
The first reception opens Home Base, an exhibition of recent works by craft MFA candidate Laura Boban. Curated by art history alumna Haley Clouser (MA ’19), the reception takes place from 6–8 pm.
From 7–9 pm, the gallery will launch the opening reception for Mother/Artist/Teacher: The Labor of Becoming, featuring the work of art education MAE candidate Miranda Clayton.
Visitors are encouraged to attend the simultaneous PechaKucha event featuring recipients of the Anderson’s Space Grant. PechaKucha, a storytelling format devised by Tokyo-based architectural designers, features rapid presentations and commentary by participants showing off work and ideas. Thursday evening’s presenters are artists accepted into the Anderson’s 2019 Summer Space Grants program, which has provided free studio space to them this summer.
The artists joining the PechaKucha Night include Chelsea Lee (MFA ’17), adjunct professor in Craft/Material Studies; Christine Stoddard (BA ’12), author and artist based in Brooklyn, NY; Andy Lowrie, graduate student in Craft; Deep Pool, aka Charlotte Haines, undergraduate student in Photography + Film; Brian Patterson (MFA ’18), multimedia artist; Megan Goldfarb (BFA ’18), collections assistant at VCU Libraries; Egbert Vongmalaithong (BFA ’12), sculpture alumnus; and Marta Finkelstein, adjunct professor in Kinetic Imaging.
While the PechaKucha presentation is a one-night-only event, both exhibitions will be on view until August 21.
