We know applying to art school can be exciting, scary, and overwhelming all at once. Here are five things you can do to help you through the application process.
- Do the research.
Deciding what art college is best for you is a big decision. Hear directly from current students about their experience. - Check your email regularly.
Admissions counselors will email the address on your application to communicate about missing application materials, upcoming deadlines and next steps. If you don’t check your email regularly, you could miss important information. - Include a breadth of work in your portfolio.
VCUarts asks for 12 to 16 works of art that you have created within the past two years that show your promise in visual art and design. Show us your best work, who you are as a artist, and the various skills that you have. - Ask for advice.
Be sure to get feedback on your portfolio and essays before you submit them. Ask your teachers, peers and local artists in your community for their advice and make use of their constructive criticism. - Apply by the deadline.
The VCUarts first-year deadline for submitting the Common Application is January 15. Visual arts and design applicants must also submit a portfolio at that time.
