If you haven’t noticed, Richmond is full of art and as we fade into fall, arguably one of the most gorgeous seasons to be out in about in Richmond, there’s plenty of art and creative outings to go around.

Kicking off the month is artoberVA. In its inaugural year, artoberVA is a month-long celebration of arts and culture. The goal of artoberVA is to increase awareness of and participation in arts and culture offerings across our region during October and throughout the year.

An on-going program in town is RVA First Fridays, is a monthly movement where the city convenes at and around the arts district, primarily between Belvidere and 2nd Streets. But you shouldn’t limit yourself to just one day a month. There are over 70 galleries, museums and exhibition spaces in the Greater Richmond area.

This weekend is the Richmond Folk Festival, October 7 – 9, and it never fails to disappoint. Not even Hurricane Matthew can damper a Richmonder’s spirits when it comes to this annual festival.

Later this month we have the second annual CURRENT Art Fair, which is powered by some of the city’s most notable galleries. CURRENT runs October 20 – 23 in one of Richmond’s coolest neighborhood, Scott’s Addition. This free art fair emphasizes accessible opportunities to collect art and will feature works from local, national and internationally recognized artists.

Lastly, an exhibition of work by Gordon Parks will be running at the Virginia Museum of Fine Art through October 30 and Fabergé and Russian Decorative Arts starts on October 22, running through 2018.

Next up…1708 Gallery’s InLight, which also takes place in Scott’s Addition, on November 11, 2016.
