Figuring out what you want to study in college is a big decision, and it’s one you have to plan for before you even find a college to apply to. If you’re going into the fine arts, many colleges have a foundation program that helps you narrow down your focus. At VCUarts, our Art Foundation Program (AFO) gives students the opportunity to explore different media while working on fundamental skills that are transferable to all majors. You’ll complete AFO if you are planning to purse:
– Art Education
– Communication Arts
– Craft/Material Studies
– Fashion Design
– Graphic Design
– Interior Design
– Kinetic Imaging
– Painting and Printmaking
– Photography and Film
– Sculpture and Extended Media
Performing Arts and other programs are offered at VCUarts, but these don’t require you to go through the AFO:
– Art History
– Dance and Choreography
– Fashion Merchandising
– Cinema
– Music
– Theatre
An education at VCUarts has an amazing Lego effect. Your arts degree is the foundation of your experience at VCU, but there are many “blocks” you can add onto your experience to make it uniquely yours. For example, you can add a second major from another program within the university, or minor in a totally different area of interest. We have even smaller blocks you can add as you build your course of study, like earning a certificate in product innovation or going through one of our speciality courses, like middle Of broad.
Learn more about our majors by flipping through our new Viewbook and explore the VCU Bulletin to find out what kind of courses you can take at VCUarts. Or, give us a call. We have an amazing group in the Admissions office standing by to answer your questions.
