Maxwell Runko (B.F.A. ’16) has a lot on his plate. In addition to his full time work as a student, Runko is also is a part time model, represented by Modelogic and Two Management in Los Angeles.

“It is very challenging to balance both school and professional work,” says Runko. “Luckily my parents and agents all work extremely hard to make each job I go on as smooth as possible.”

When he’s not expanding his look book, he’s spending his time on campus developing his art. When asked about his proudest moment at VCUarts, Runko recalls a very recent example.

“I reached out to several individuals to assist me in co-authoring a performance intervention at the opening of the undergraduate juried show,” says Runko. “I began performing, moving slowly, outlining and grazing each piece with my face as my body clinged to the wall and floor. From my experience and time at VCU, I feel liberated, vulnerable and in control of my authorship and agency, which is an invaluable tool.”

After graduation, Runko has his sights set on L.A., where he will continue his modeling career and maintain his studio practice.
