Most application deadlines have come and gone, but some schools, like VCUarts, have an additional deadline for portfolio submissions. If you’re still perfecting your portfolio, here are five tips to help wrap up the process.
- Provide a full range of original, inspired work. Pieces that were created from direct observation are important samples many admission reviewers look for.
- Look up the school you’re applying to on Instagram. It’s a great way to see the types of work students are producing. #VCUartsAFO, #VCUartsWork and #VCUartsView are great tags to look at for VCUarts.
- Ask for quick reviews and critiques from your teachers and guidance counselors. Fresh perspective may help you make the decision between submitting an example of still life verses a digital photograph of a moving object.
- Present work in a clean, clear way. Photographs of work should be well shot, without distractions. Prepare a list of all of your pieces with title, media, size, year and description details. That way, when you begin the upload process, you have the necessary information handy to quickly drop into place.
- Create a checklist of details to double check, go through them, and correct your mistakes. If a school doesn’t accept InDesign files, convert to an accepted format. If the maximum file size is 5MB, optimize your files to meet that requirement.
VCUarts’s portfolio submission deadline is February 2, 2016. If you’re finalizing your portfolio for us, review our Portfolio FAQ.
